About the Network

Building capacity, providing support, and connecting Nigerian entrepreneurs and leaders to fight poverty.

The Reality on the Ground

Nigeria is a nation of extraordinary talent, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit. Yet for millions of hardworking people, that potential is constantly under threat. Across the country, families wake up every day facing the same exhausting realities: rising cost of living, unreliable power, poor infrastructure, limited access to capital, and markets that feel closed to those without connections or collateral.

Small businesses — the backbone of the Nigerian economy — struggle to survive. A market trader in Kano, a fashion designer in Aba, a food processor in Enugu, or a tech hopeful in Abuja often has the skill and the hunger, but lacks the capital to buy stock, the training to manage cash flow, the network to reach bigger buyers, or the guidance to formalise their business. Many remain trapped in survival mode, working long hours for little return, unable to hire, expand, or create the jobs their communities desperately need.

Youth unemployment remains painfully high. Many young people leave school or training programmes full of ideas, only to meet a wall of limited opportunities. Women entrepreneurs, who make up a huge part of the informal economy, face additional barriers — limited mobility, social expectations, and even less access to finance. In rural communities and peri-urban areas, the challenges are sharper still: weak infrastructure, poor access to information, and almost no structured support for people who want to turn small activities into sustainable businesses.

Poverty in Nigeria is not only about lack of money. It is about limited choices, interrupted dreams, and the daily pressure of trying to build something lasting when the system itself feels stacked against you. Inflation eats into profits. Power cuts destroy perishable goods. Multiple taxes and levies drain small businesses. Access to affordable credit is rare. Many promising ideas never leave the notebook because the founder cannot find the first ₦50,000 or ₦100,000 needed to start properly.

Our Purpose

The Entrepreneur Support Network exists to change this reality, one entrepreneur and one community at a time. We are not just offering grants or programmes — we are building a practical, structured pathway for Nigerians who are ready to create value, generate income, and lift themselves and others out of poverty.

Our core belief is simple: when you empower a driven entrepreneur with the right mix of capital, knowledge, and community support, you do more than help one person. You create jobs, strengthen local markets, keep money circulating in communities, and give families a more stable foundation. Over time, this compounds. A supported small business hires two more people. Those employees support their families. The business buys from other local suppliers. A facilitator trains the next group. A group leader organises a cooperative that gives many people a stronger voice and better bargaining power.

We are focused on reducing poverty to the barest minimum by attacking it at the root — the lack of sustainable economic opportunity. Rather than short-term handouts, we invest in people who can build businesses that last. Through Business Support Grants, we provide the capital that allows qualified entrepreneurs to buy equipment, restock, improve production, or enter new markets. Through Program Facilitators, we make sure practical knowledge reaches the people who need it most — financial literacy, business planning, marketing, digital skills, and cooperative development. Through Group Leaders, we strengthen the networks and communities that make individual success more likely and more sustainable.

How We Work

Every application is carefully reviewed. We prioritise Nigerian citizens who demonstrate both need and readiness to put support to productive use. Whether you are applying for a grant to grow an existing business, offering to facilitate training in your area of expertise, or leading a group that can mobilise others, your participation contributes to a larger effort.

We understand the difficulties on the ground. That is why our programmes are designed to be practical, not theoretical. Grants are meant to solve real constraints — stock, tools, working capital, marketing. Facilitators are people who already know the Nigerian business environment and can teach in ways that make sense locally. Group Leaders are trusted people within their communities who can coordinate, encourage, and help members access opportunities they would struggle to reach alone.

We also recognise that lasting change requires more than money. It requires skills, accountability, and connection. That is why we encourage applicants to think about mentorship, training, and peer support alongside any financial assistance. A business that receives capital but no guidance often struggles. A community that has strong leadership and shared learning can multiply the impact of any single grant or training session.

The Impact We Seek

Our long-term goal is clear: to contribute meaningfully to the reduction of poverty across Nigeria by strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem from the ground up. We want to see more businesses that survive beyond the first difficult years, more people moving from informal survival activities into structured and profitable enterprises, more jobs created in local communities, and more Nigerians who can provide for their families with dignity and stability.

We measure success not only by the number of grants disbursed or sessions facilitated, but by the real changes in people’s lives — increased income, new jobs, stronger groups, and communities that begin to depend less on external aid and more on their own productive capacity. We believe that when entrepreneurs are properly supported, poverty does not have to be a permanent condition for so many.

This work is urgent. Every day that a capable entrepreneur cannot access the support they need is another day of lost income, lost jobs, and continued hardship. By partnering with us — whether as a grant recipient, a facilitator, or a group leader — you become part of a deliberate effort to push poverty back and expand opportunity across Nigeria.
